Edinburgh City Football Club
Creative Direction / Visual Identity / Sports Design
Edinburgh City Football Club is a Scottish football side based in the nation's capital city. The club competes in Scotland's Ladbrokes League Two, historically becoming the first team to ever gain promotion to the Scottish Professional Football Leagues (SPFL) via the play-off pyramid system in 2016.
With the team reaching all new heights on the field, the club was looking to project the side's visual identity into the modern digital age and fully establish themselves as one of Scotland's senior football clubs.
The key objectives of the new visual identity were to showcase the club's true pride at representing the nation's capital, whilst maintaining essential club motifs integral to their proud heritage. As the solo club representing Edinburgh in name form, it was crucial that the brand symbolised the city's historical, cultural and inclusive values; faithfully capturing the local community bond.
The project was an accumulation of 18 months of extended research, development and consultation; informed by the local football community, the city of Edinburgh and, most importantly, the club and their loyal Citizen support
